ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION FROM COAL
73% of the electricity produced in June came from CO2-intensive fuels. This is slightly higher than in May, but 3 percentage points lower than a year ago. Coal-fired power generation fell by 1% year-on-year.
COAL PRODUCTION AND SALES
COAL PRODUCTION – 3.33 Mt ↗️
COAL SALES – 3.31 Mt ↗️
For the first time this year, hard coal sales (almost) equaled production. This means less coal went to stockpiles with reserves. Production at 3.33 million tonnes (+1% m/m) is the third lowest monthly result ever, sales at 3.31 million tonnes (+5% m/m) – the fifth lowest.
HARD COAL RESERVES
TOTAL – 12.7 Mt ↘️
HARD COAL RESERVES AT MINING SITES – 5.3 Mt =
HARD COAL RESERVES AT MINING SITES, BELONGING TO POWER PLANTS – 0.25 Mt ↗️
HARD COAL RESERVES AT POWER PLANTS – 7.1 Mt ↘️
Total coal reserves declined marginally, mainly due to a slight decrease in reserves at power plants. Since the beginning of the year, the amount of stockpiles have remained at similar levels, with an increasing proportion of coal heaps at mines.
EMPLOYMENT
NUMBER OF PEOPLE EMPLOYED IN MINING COMPANIES – 75 446 ↘️
The slow decline in employment has been continuing since January. In June, the number of positions in coal mining fell by 132 and is 490 fewer than a year ago.
COAL PRICES
COAL PRICE FOR ELECTRICITY GENERATION (PSCMI1) – 480 PLN/t ↘️
Coal for power plants (PSCMI1) was down less than 1% vs May per unit of weight and 2% per unit of energy. This is, respectively, 35% and 36% less than a year ago.
COAL PRICE FOR HEATING (PSCMI2) – 587 PLN/t ↘️
The price of coal for heating (PSCMI2) declined gently – 587 PLN/t and 24.32 PLN/GJ are down 1% and 3% respectively in comparison to May.
